Food Authority Shuts Down 1st Fake Soft Drinks Factory
The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has uncovered a counterfeit cold drink factory operating secretly in Quetta, just days after the disturbing revelation of donkey meat being sold in Islamabad. The latest bust highlights a growing public health crisis stemming from illegal food and beverage operations across Pakistan.1
Secret Factory Operating in Kachi Baig Kumbarani Road
In a high-stakes raid, BFA officials sealed a hidden factory located on Kachi Baig Kumbarani Road. The facility was illegally producing fake versions of several popular cold drinks, including:
-
Sting
-
Sprite
-
Mountain Dew
-
Coca-Cola
-
Fanta
Thousands of liters of substandard and hazardous beverages were confiscated, alongside empty branded bottles, forged labels, and sophisticated filling machines used to replicate these beverages.
Distribution Beyond Quetta
The BFA revealed that the fake drinks were not limited to Quetta’s local market. Instead, shipments were being sent to other districts, spreading the health risk far beyond city boundaries. Investigations are now underway to identify the full scope of distribution and all those involved in the illicit operation.
Factory Sealed, Legal Action Underway
The entire facility has been sealed, and legal proceedings have begun against the factory’s owners. Director-General Waqar Khurshid Alam of the BFA emphasized that the production and sale of counterfeit drinks endanger public health, warning that such products can lead to serious health complications, especially in children and individuals with weakened immune systems.
“We will continue to take strict action against anyone jeopardizing public safety,” said DG Alam.
“The health of our people is non-negotiable.”
Public Advised to Stay Alert
The BFA is urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to food and beverage production. The public can submit complaints and tips via BFA’s official helplines or website. Authorities have assured prompt action against all culprits involved in the production or sale of fake products.
Dangers of Consuming Counterfeit Drinks
Fake cold drinks often contain unregulated chemical substances, including synthetic flavors, unsafe preservatives, and contaminated water. Consuming these beverages can cause:
-
Gastrointestinal infections
-
Food poisoning
-
Kidney and liver damage
-
Allergic reactions
The public is encouraged to verify labels, check for proper seals, and only purchase beverages from reputable stores.
