Flash Floods Hit Rawalpindi Vehicles Submerged as Emergency Declared

Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, creating major difficulties for residents and commuters. Low-lying areas have been severely affected as streets turned into flowing water channels, bringing traffic to a standstill in several parts of the twin cities.

Roads Flooded, Vehicles Stuck in Water

Many cars and motorcycles have been submerged or trapped in floodwaters, leaving people stranded and unable to continue their journeys. The waterlogged streets have made it nearly impossible for both vehicles and pedestrians to move freely.

Areas Most Affected by Flooding

The heaviest rainfall, measuring up to 66mm, was recorded in the Bokra area. Other locations facing severe waterlogging include Blue Area, Bari Imam, Bhara Kahu, Zero Point, and Faizabad. Residents in these areas have found it difficult to commute due to overflowing drains and blocked roads.

WASA Reports Rainfall and Current Water Levels

According to the Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), over 80mm of rain has fallen so far. Despite the heavy downpour, the water level in Nullah Lai, an important drainage channel in Rawalpindi, remains stable and does not currently pose a flood risk. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any emergencies.

More Rain Expected in the Coming Hours

Meteorological officials warn that rain is likely to continue intermittently throughout the day. Meanwhile, southern districts of Punjab such as Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Sargodha are also forecasted to receive rainfall over the next few days.

Precautions for Residents in Rain-Affected Areas

People living in the affected and surrounding regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions. This includes avoiding flooded roads, keeping emergency contacts handy, and staying updated with weather reports to ensure safety during heavy rain and possible flooding.

Stay safe and keep updated with the latest weather information as authorities work to manage the situation.
