Punjab Govt Fixes Sugar Rates for Four Months to Control Inflation

In a decisive move to curb the rising inflation and stabilize the sugar market, the Punjab government has officially fixed the ex-mill and retail prices of sugar for the next four months, from July 15 to November 14, 2025.

This decision comes as a response to the continuous surge in sugar prices affecting the daily lives of consumers across the province. The notification was issued by Punjab Cane Commissioner and Director General (Food), Naveed Shehzad Mirza, detailing the sugar price control measures month by month.

MonthWise Sugar Price Breakdown in Punjab

The sugar prices have been fixed in a phased manner over the four-month period, allowing gradual adjustments while providing price stability to both producers and consumers.

🔹 Phase 1: July 15 – August 14

  • Ex-mill Price: Rs. 165 per kg
  • Retail Price: Rs. 173 per kg

🔹 Phase 2: August 15 – September 14

  • Ex-mill Price: Rs. 167 per kg
  • Retail Price: Rs. 175 per kg

🔹 Phase 3: September 15 – October 14

  • Ex-mill Price: Rs. 169 per kg
  • Retail Price: Rs. 177 per kg

🔹 Phase 4: October 15 Onwards

  • Ex-mill Price: Rs. 171 per kg
  • Retail Price: Rs. 179 per kg

Objective Behind Price Fixation

The move is aimed at:

  • Controlling artificial price hikes
  • Protecting consumers from exploitation
  • Providing price predictability for wholesalers and retailers
  • Maintaining sugar stock transparency during peak demand seasons

The Punjab Cane Commissioner Office has also warned of strict action against those found selling sugar above the notified rates. Enforcement teams across all districts have been activated to monitor implementation and penalize violators.
